NBA-Rente
-
Hallo SD-Gemeinde!

First off, the NBA pension plan gets divided by players who played before 1965 and those who played after 1965.
Since you asked about current players let’s go with the after 1965 numbers.
The amount of money paid is $306.34 x the number of seasons played = their monthly pension check.
Magic Johnson played 13 seasons in the NBA. His monthly check is $3982.48 ($306.34 x 13 = $3982.42).
This means Magic’s yearly pension is $47,789.04
($3982.42 x 12 = $47,789.04)Note that for today’s players they had to have played in the NBA for 3 years to qualify for a pension. For those playing before 1965 they had to have played 5 seasons in the NBA for a pension.
Or, if you prefer, you could collect two-thirds of that amount starting at age 45.

No, it should mean, that you should have signed a full season guaranteed contract with an NBA franchise, to qualify for a season to be counted for or against your pension. No 10 day contracts. Most of the first round rookies automatic qualifie for a pension, since their contracts are guaranteed for three years, no matter if they play or not. So it would be wise for any free agent, be it second rounders or overseas vets to sing at least a three year deal to be part of the pension plan and benefit from it.

i also think that players who have played at least three years should have earned enough money to get along after their pro carreer. If you have played three years in the NBA you can propably play and can earn some more money anywhere else like europe. and if you are not totally stupid you should have earned enough money and you can have a nice time after the pro carreer.

The typical NBA contract runs for a whole season and that way it is treated. If a team buy out a players contract it (the contract)still counts (for the pension)for as long as the original contract would have been void, since the team still has to pay into the pension fond. So if you leave for any reason that lie not in your behavior, or lack there off, you get pension for as long as your contract was originaly destined to be.
