FIBA Europe announces that the FIBA Europe Executive Committee approved the proposal made by the Lithuanian Basketball Federation to play the EuroBasket 2011 Final Round with 24, instead of 16 teams.The Executive Committee was backed in its decision by a majority of the FIBA Europe Board Members, who were also present at the meeting in Istanbul.“The expansion is meant to follow the rapid development of European Basketball.” commented FIBA Europe Secretary General Nar Zanolin."Proof for this …

Stimmt doch - von den zehn europäischen Teilnehmern der laufenden Basketball-WM haben neun das Achtelfinale erreicht - nur eben Deutschland nicht. Oder war das ÄHEM jetzt anders gemeint?

Verbände von Weißrussland bis Faröer sparen sich die Kosten.Nun braucht auch der DirkN nicht mehr hinzukommen, die Olympiaquali wird unerreichbar.

Das ist lächerlich. Allein vom mathematischen her hat man mit 16 bzw. 32 Mannschaften die optimale Teilnehmergröße. FIBA Europe hat 49 Mitgliedsverbände, darunter auch einige Kleinststaaten. Ich freue mich schon auf solche Spiele wie Lettland gegen Großritannien vor 200 Zuschauern. Es kriegen ja noch nicht einmal die USA die Halle voll.
