Barcelona, October 11, 2011. The 2011-12 Eurocup Regular Season Draw took place in Barcelona on Tuesday and divided 32 clubs from 19 countries into the regular season groups that will mark the road forward toward the eventual crowning of the competition's 10th annual champion next April. The six-game Eurocup regular season will begin on November 15 and finish on December 20, with the best two of each group's four teams advancing. Games resume on January 17, with the opening of the Last 16 round, which consists of six more games for each team, ending February 28. Again, the best two teams from each group advance, this time to the Quarterfinals, head-to-head two-game home-and-away series decided on aggregate score between March 20 and 27. Those four series winners will reach the Eurocup Finals for single-elimination games to decide a champion on April 14 and 15.
Prior to the Eurocup's tenth-anniversary draw, a meeting was held with all 32 clubs invited to review the outlook for the upcoming season and future plans meant to enhance the competition. The clubs heard from Euroleague Basketball officials detailing the strategic plan for the 2012-15 seasons, leading to a healthy debate amongst all participants with counter-proposals discussed in detail which will be included in the final proposal. A number of departments then made presentations to the clubs regarding the 2011-12 regulations, along with a summary of the consistent Eurocup growth in audience size and distribution, with coverage reaching well beyond the borders of the continent to include countries on four continents. Last season, television partner Eurosport 2 broadcast Eurocup games in 17 languages to more than 50 million households in 47 countries. In more than a third of those countries, the games were broadcast in high definition. Eurosport 2 is currently working with Euroleague Basketball on a proposal to continue its broadcast partnership for the 2011-12 season and beyond.
