Top 16 Week 3 MVP: Terrell McIntyre, Montepaschi Siena

Pucki am 12.02.2010 um 12:56

In a week full of outstanding individual performances, nobody could surpass the show put on by Terrell McIntyre of Montepaschi Siena, who earned Week 3 MVP honors with a performance index rating of 43, the third-best in Top 16 history. McIntyre's performance on Thursday as he led Montepaschi to an 83-76 home win over Real Madrid was the highest-rated in a Top 16 game since the record index of 51 was set by Jaka Lakovic for Panathinaikos on March 25, 2004 in an overtime game. The best non-overtime in Top 16 history came earlier that same month in 2004 as Arvydas Sabonis of Zalgiris posted a 47 index rating against Ulker. This week, McIntyre poured in 24 points to go with 11 assists, 3 rebounds, 3 steals and 7 fouls drawn while shooting 6-for-9 on two-pointers and 4-for-4 on free throws to get his 43 index rating! He had plenty of competition, too. Alan Anderson of Maccabi Electra, who had been the previous week's MVP, returned with 23 points on 8 of 8 two-pointers and 4 of 4 free throws in a home victory over Efes Pilsen. Anderson added 9 rebounds, 4 assists, 3 steals and 4 fours drawn for an index rating of 35. He was followed by Kelly McCarty, who led Khimki Moscow Region to Week 3's only road win with 23 points, his Euroleague career-best, against Caja Laboral. McCarty added 4 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 steals and 5 fouls drawn to amass a 33 index rating. Sasha Kaun of CSKA Moscow came next, in fourth place, with a 32 index rating while piling up 18 points, 10 rebounds and 5 blocks in a first-place showdown his team won against Asseco Prokom. And despite his team's loss, Darjus Lavrinovic of Real Madrid, fifth with an index rating of 29, completed the top individual performances in Top 16 Week 3.

Individual highs: Slavko Vranes, Partizan Belgrade, 11 rebounds

Montepaschi teammates Lavrinovic and McIntyre led all Top 16 Week 3 scorers with 24 points apiece in their victory against Real Madrid. After three games, Anderson is the Top 16's best scorer on average, at 23 points per game. Slavko Vranes of Partizan Belgrade led all rebounders this week by pulling down 11 in his team's road loss against Maroussi BC. Ioannis Bourousis of Olympiacos leads the Top 16 boards list at 11 per night. McIntyre dished 11 assists to lead the weekly standings, but Doron Perkins of Maccabi Electra is first overall in this category at 5.7 per game. Michalis Pelekanos of Maroussi and Theo Papaloukas of Olympiacos each collected 4 steals in Top 16 Week 3. McIntyre and Viktor Khryapa of CSKA tie atop the Top 16 board at 3 steals per night. Kaun's 5 blocks helped lead CSKA to a big win against Asseco Prokom Gdynia. Mirza Begic of Zalgiris leads the Top 16 in blocks at 2.33 per night. McIntyre, Kaun and Vranes were the only players to get double-doubles in Top 16 Week 3.
